Geocaching and abandoned buildings.

It’s the weekend, which means more Geocaching adventures!

The husband and I had a few spare hours before his V:tM game, so we went for a little drive to pick up a few geocaches.

The first stop took us deep into the abandoned section of Fort Ord — again. It was once more in the area that used to be old dorms, but now is nothing but a cluster of old buildings with broken windows, rusty railings, rotting doors and paintball splotches. The perfect place for Monterey Bay’s geocaching lovers to place a slew of caches.

Our first one was an easy spot. I wanted to enjoy myself and take a few pictures of the buildings and scenery before actually locating it. I have a huge urge to come back here on my bike and take a few more pictures, maybe treasure hunt a little bit more.

When I was done with the pictures and ready for the hunt, I didn’t even need my GPS. My instincts took me right to it without even a second thought. Went up to it, snagged it, signed and re-hid. Although, when geocaching, I highly recommend bringing a thick pair of work gloves. once again, I had to deal with a rusty cache container that was difficult to open.

Stop number two was an easy but very odd and clever one. Couldn’t grab it right away as there were some cars parked nearby from people that were biking off in the nearby trails. I won’t post any pictures for it, but I’ll add the link in case anyone nearby wants to check it out. I’d recommend going to it just because it looks cool.

Fortune Cookie Cache — don’t forget to bring a fortune to leave behind!

After taking a break to grab my puppy and pick up some friends, we drove out to Marina to hunt around there. We managed to find one cleverly hidden by the railroad tracks. Apart from our friends complaining about the African Ice Plants. all of us (including Faelan) had a good time, even without much finding going on before it got dark.

Unfortunately, adventuring isn’t all fun and games. There’s some things you need to watch out for, like nasty bugs or snakes that may chomp at you, so always be safe and careful. And check yourself for ticks too!

Till next time, happy adventuring!
