Mini trip: Pfeiffer beach.

Yesterday, we had a few hours to spare between errands, so the husband, wanting to drive after his car being out of commission for a while, wanted to go on a tiny road trip. Destination? Pfeiffer beach, Big Sur. The beach with strong riptides that draws its fame for having “mysterious” purple volcanic sand. Of course, this is the type of thing that speaks louder through pictures, so I took plenty. Enjoy.

It was a long drive there.

Finally at the turnoff road! Still got a 2 mile, one lane road through the woods to go through though!

just a little walk down a path…

A pretty little river! I wonder where it goes?

Oh hey, the beach!

So here is where the river flows out!

I didn’t get as many pictures of the sand as I thought I did. Some parts of the stream had some really pretty swirly patterns. I saw these two things as we were on our way out.

Eleven year old Ivy Pacheco drowned after she was swept into the ocean at Pfeiffer Beach by a riptide current. Her mother and grandmother drowned while trying to save her.
This signed was pinned to a tree to warn the unwary of the dangerous riptides. In 1997, a young girl drowned while playing in the sand near the water, when she was dragged under. Her mother and grandmother were pulled in too while trying to save her. Please exercise caution in areas with riptides and other such strong currents.

We Made our way home, and were able to catch the sunset while still on a long stretch of road.
